Iran Bitumen

Iran is expected to add another 700,000 to one Mln tons/year to its bitumen capacity once the expansion of four refineries is completed in 2013.

Iran’s installed bitumen capacity is 4.5m-5.5m tons/year, of which 2.5m tons are allocated for the domestic market for construction and paving of roads. The remaining volumes of 2.5m-3.0m tons are exported as bitumen or converted into heavy fuel oil for heating purposes, depending on demand and economics.

With the added capacity, Iran’s bitumen output is expected to increase to 5.2m-6.5m tons/year in 2013 as it seeks to become the leading producer of bitumen in Asia after China.
